Restorative Yoga is the use of props to support the body in positions of comfort and ease to facilitate relaxation and health”

Founded from the teachings of Yoga Master B.K.S Iyengar, Restorative Yoga was further developed and popularised by Judith Hanson Lasater in the 1970s initially as a form of yoga to assist recovery from illness or injury.

Restorative Yoga is about opening the body and mind. Poses are adapted to the person, props such as blocks, bolsters & blankets create ease & support, allowing you to relax and let go physically and mentally.

Why would I go to a Restorative Yoga session?

Restorative Yoga is an easy way to help your body and mind to relax! The poses are adjusted for the person, rather than the person trying to fit themselves to the pose. Bolsters, yoga blocks and blankets are positioned to support your body in the pose - the objective being to fully let go (rather than say extended stretching as in Yin Yoga). You are covered in blankets for warmth (in the photos the top blanket is missing) and have an eye pillow (which are like weighted eye masks). Only 3 or 4 poses are used in an hour session, so the body and mind have the time to sink into a deeply relaxed state.
